How a Rental Works
You tell us the size and the address, and we bring the container out on a tilt-bed truck and set it down where you want it — driveway, side yard, job site, farm lane. Nothing needs to be lifted onto a ramp. From there you load at your own pace: an hour on Saturday, an evening after work, a week of packing between houses.
When you're finished, keep the container on site as long as you need it — it's month to month — or call and we'll pick it up. If you'd rather not keep it at home, we can haul the loaded box back to our gated Cambridge lot and redeliver it later, or move it straight to your new address. See container delivery and moving for how the trucking side works.
Why Wood-Built Containers on the Chesapeake
Steel containers sweat. When a humid Chesapeake afternoon meets a cool night, moisture condenses on the inside of a metal roof and rains back down on whatever is stored below — mattresses, upholstered furniture, photographs, paperwork, tools. Our units are wood-built with a weather-tight roof, and wood buffers that swing in temperature and humidity instead of turning it into drips. It's the reason we've stayed with wood since 2006 on a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides.
Pricing FAQs
- How much does a portable storage container cost?
- Monthly rates run from $99 for an 8' x 8' up to $179 for an 8' x 20', plus Maryland sales tax. On top of the monthly rate there is a flat per-trip delivery fee of $50 to $100 depending on your zone, billed each way — once when we drop the container off and once when we pick it up.
- Is there a minimum rental period?
- One month is the minimum. After that it's month to month — keep the container as long as the project takes and tell us when you're ready for pickup. There is no long-term contract and no penalty for keeping it a single month.
- What area do you deliver to?
- We deliver from our Cambridge lot across Dorchester, Talbot, Caroline, Queen Anne's, Kent, Cecil and Wicomico Counties in Maryland, and to all of Delaware — Sussex, Kent and New Castle Counties. Addresses beyond our published zones are quoted at booking.
- What do I need in my driveway for delivery?
- Roughly 10 feet of level width, about 60 feet of straight approach, and clear overhead access — no low branches or wires. The tilt-bed truck sets the container gently on the ground, so gravel, packed dirt, asphalt and concrete all work. Tell us about tight turns or soft ground when you book.
- What fits in an 8' x 16' container?
- About three to four rooms of furniture and boxes — roughly a small apartment or a modest three-bedroom house packed carefully. It handles a living room, a bedroom set, a dining set, appliances and 40 to 60 boxes with room to walk in.
- Do I need insurance on the contents?
- We recommend it. Your homeowner's or renter's policy often extends to belongings stored off-premises, and business policies usually cover tools and inventory in a container on your own site — check with your agent. We keep the container weatherproof and locked, but we do not insure your contents.
